APWU - American Postal Workers Union

APWU's Constitution states that:

"The revenues of this Union shall be derived from a per capita tax of Six Dollars and Eighty-Eight Cents ($6.88) per member, bi-weekly, to be paid upon the full paid up membership of all affiliated local unions and members-at-large...of which Twenty cents (20¢) per member, per month is to be returned to the member's respective state organization,... Fifteen cents (15¢) of the per capita tax wil be deposited in a contingency fund. The national per capita tax and local dues shall be increased when each negotiated salary increase takes effect by the following formula: by deducting three percent (3%) of each negotiated salary increase based on level 5, step K, nine-tenths percent (0.9%) for the APWU General Fund, two-tenths percent (0.2%) for the APWU Organization Fund and one and nine-tenths percent (1.9%) for local and state organizations."
Article 16 Sec. 2 REVENUES (a)

Do you know what your dues would be? Here is what the APWU organizers have said about average APWU dues in the APWU Fact Sheet #4:

“Dues for the APWU vary by local. Most average between $9.00 - $10.00 a week. The National portion of the dues is $3.89 a week. The rest is set by the local and stays with the local. There is a clause in the APWU National Constitution where dues slowly increase to keep up with increases in the cost of living. The Fact Sheet goes on to say that the independent local will decide on their own dues."

The APWU organizers have told you what the average dues are for APWU members. APWU stands to gain a lot by organizing ABX. Collecting dues is what ABX means to APWU. But what would that mean to you? You can see what you might be giving APWU over the years, and what the union would collect from the 5,000 potential members.

So, even if you didn't invest the money that you might have given to APWU, you can see what that money might be worth. Are the claims that APWU is making worth the loss of income as well as the risk involved in joining a union?

Dues can add up quickly! Roll over a month, year, or multiple years and see just how quickly the dues add up for you as an individual and even more for the union with 5000 potential new members.

Or, think of it another way...What could you do with 3 years
worth of dues if you didn't give it to the APWU?
