Union Courts NWA Mechanics Who Replaced Striking AMFA Members Last Year
Aero-News.net - April 19, 2006
The IAM is trying to regain representation over
aircraft mechanics who were hired last August to replace the striking AMFA
mechanicsNorthwest Mechanics. Should IAM succeed in its bid to bring the
currently union-less replacement mechanics under the union umbrella, it
would return Northwest mechanics to the same union the airline's
mechanics, as well as its plane cleaners, voted to leave eight years
ago...for AMFA. AMFA doesn't believe turnabout is fair play.

Stop pickets to get aid, NWA mechanics told
Kentucky.com - April 11, 2006
Former Northwest Airlines mechanics who lost their jobs while on strike could get jobless benefits and worker retraining money if their union (AMFA) stops picketing against the airline, according to a state unemployment official. The mechanics' strike against Northwest which began August 19, 2005, has been functionally over for months, with most of the striking mechanics having lost their jobs. But union members of AMFA voted down a contract offer that would have officially switched their status from on strike to laid off, that would have made them eligible for state unemployment benefits.
